Besides the L580F for the Hybrid having the electric motor in the mix, is it basically an AL80F hung off of the back of the electric motor module? Or, is it beefed up to handle the higher HP/Torque of the Hybrid. As I follow the Tacoma's, to learn about the running gear, I admit to having reservations about the auto's... Yes, Toyota will sort it out. And hopefully continue to do the right thing on repairing/retro'ing as needed.

As we consider our options, and learn about the 6G's. The non-hybrid would seem to be a more KISS, and have more then adequate power for our expected usage.

We do have an Acura MDX SH-AWD Sport Hybrid Advance, so certainly not too afraid of Hybrid technology (And used to Limited's Adaptive Variable Suspension's..). I like how Toyota focused the Hybrid more on power/torque augmentation vs maximizing MPG (As did the MDX's Hybrid too.)...

The transmissions settling into normal Toyota reliability levels - is our main watch on the 6G's:)! - Best to all - Smitty

As far as I know it's beefed up to handle the torque of the higher output Max. Toyota (Aisin) transmissions are usually bulletproof reliable and I wouldn't worry about it. Toyota sometimes has to recalibrate software but that's about it.

Not dragging Honda (I've owned 3 Honda products) but their transmissions have been a weak spot for a long time. I've always said the most reliable vehicle in the world would have a Honda engine and a Toyota transmission.

Thanks! Tacoma's with certain trans fault codes, are having new transmission torque converters installed by Toyota. Would not be surprised to see this become a recall, as it certainly could be a safety item if the trans locks into 6th, or fails completely, at the wrong time/place in traffic. Numbers are hard to get a grasp on... But enough reports by owner's - to have prompted my post. ---- And yep, Honda Built ZF Licensed trans have not been stellar... The new 10Spd, that I believe is 100% designed and built by Honda, is showing a promising improvement... And sadly, the historically stout Honda V6, are having their build quality issues too... Suspect that the numbers, and years, of the recall/long block swap will grow ahead:)! Though one FB Forum Group had a US Honda Engineer chime in, that the slightly mod'd 3.5 in 2024/2025 and on (Think it was those two years, for sure 2025.) will not have that crankshaft/bearing issue to be concerned about. Hope so... Thanks again, I did not know about Aisin. Only Toyota I've ever been close to, was a Hertz Rental Camry we bought for my Mom back in the the 80's... - Best, Smitty

Not the mighty J series. We had an Accord V6 with the J30 and to this date it's the smoothest V6 I've ever experienced. Whether it's idling or at redline it's always silky smooth. At 80+ mph it had this high pitched muted whine that was like a jet engine at cruise, loved that car.

6G

As always, the Devil is in the Details... I should have done a better jog of specifying... Especially. Since our 3.0, mated to the MDX Sport Hybrid power augmentation - is not an engine in question... MY ONLY EXCUSE, is being somewhat overwhelmed from the 'OK to post NOW' - avalanche of 6G San Diego and East County Toyota Dirt Tracking - posts:)! -- WAS not trying to poke at any Honda product... Or Toyota too - as 'STUF' happens during the early cycles of product roll-out... HOW a company responds - tells the story, about said company... Toyota, and Honda - seem to be stepping up as needed. Good for them... And how, they get repeat buyers, and referrals - reputations matter!
