Not terribly disappointed with the JBL in our TRD Sport Premium, but there is room for improvement with the subwoofer output. I also know if it was crossed over in a different range, it would be much cleaner sounding on the lows.
My wife is against spending much money on a new car for big upgrades, but I could probably get away with a speaker upgrade or some kind of mods for less than $500.
I know it would benefit from some targeted sound deadening as well.
Honestly, I’ve been doing quite a lot of research on this to see if there’s any way to upgrade the stock JBL system. It’s mediocre at best, in my opinion. The easiest solution I’ve found is the beat sonic amplifier plug and play that attaches to the head unit behind the dash.
However, it’s $350 for that amp and you can find something a lot more powerful within that price range. Plus if you aren’t happy with the “upgrade” will have to find a replacement amp since that one will not be enough to power quality aftermarket speakers. Currently I’m thinking to replace all the speakers and the subwoofer in the respective stock locations. I want to add an amp but need something discreet, so I can hide it behind the dash or by the rear panel where the subwoofer is located. Not sure if this would cause any issues with overheating.
Has anyone had any experience with this or know how the rear panel can be taken off to get to the JBL sub?
I'm planning to install my old ten-inch subwoofer in the rear cargo area. Subwoofers significantly enhance sound quality by handling the low-frequency sounds, which lets you reduce the bass on the other speakers for a cleaner overall audio experience.
