I said in a prior post that I would update once I got this done. So here it is.

Because Scout dropped the 10,000 pound towing capacity to 5,000 pounds for the Harvester, I canceled both of our reservations. We had one in for the Traveler Harvester, and one in for the Tara Harvester. We went and put a deposit down on a competitor’s vehicle that we get in two months.

To those still in the game, I hope you enjoy your new Scout in 2027/2028!

Finally, to Scout. If you come out with a retro or heritage model of the Scout where the entire roof comes off and it looks like the old-school Scout, and it tows 10,000 pounds, then we will be back. The ball is in your court.

Probably same here, will probably be an over priced dud like Tesla CT and Rivian Truck.

Can’t get good prices next four years.

I never tow, only haul. Payload is fine for my needs but I get how this could be a non starter for some folks. Maybe Scout will listen. I am somewhat tempted to switch to EV instead of EREV, but for now I’m keeping my Harvester reservation.

I don’t need to buy a truck. My 2014 Tundra has 150k miles and has a long life ahead of it still. But, I think the scout is cool and I would love something more efficient. At this point the biggest risk to me canceling my reservation is deciding to replace my Miata with a different sports car first. Then the truck would be a few years down the road.

I also cancelled both of my reservations but for a different reason since I do not use my vehicle for towing. In the end it will be too expensive. Hopefully the new Scout will be much more reliable than the first ones ever produced.

I am getting too accustomed to the cheap lease deals on EV's and cannot see myself ever plopping down $50K+ for a vehicle again. I just leased a 2025 Nissan Ariya for $98/mo with nothing down for 3 years. Even with my $1,700 drive off fees (tax, first payment, dealer handling, etc) that is only $5,228 to drive an EV for three years. I could repeat the process 10 times and barely reach the $50K threshold. I know the future lease deals on EV's won't be as favorable to consumers as they are right now.

Besides Scott's quick unclear mention in the Jay Leno podcast, has there been any other confirmation from Scout of exactly 5,000 lb tow capacity on the Harvester? It seems too early to know.

@Scout what competitor did you choose? The only other vehicle I might consider is a RamCharger but I'm a little afraid of Stellantis until they prove this model.

I don't see Scout coming out with a smaller two door vehicle, meaning shorter wheelbase with a drop top, that can tow 10k. It would be very hard and expensive to engineer that to modern tow rating and safety requirements, for what is likely a very small market for that combination of features.

From what I remember Scout II and Traveler had a top tow rating of 5k.

There was never a Scout that could tow 10,000 lbs. So heritage only goes so far. I
know they originally said 10,000 for the new ones but ...

5,000 pounds is still not a dealbreaker for me. I'm on my 2nd SUV right now, the first one had a towing capacity of 3,750 (Kia Sorento). Currently, my Audi Q7 does 7,700. 5,000 will be fine considering I never had to pull anything heavier than a U-Haul trailer.

It doesn't make any sense to cancel your reservation(s). Full specs are still not known as everything until production is just assumption. Seeing as how the reservation can be refundable at any time, why not just keep it? Is that $100 really going to be needed now?

For me I'm still excited and towing doesn't matter at all at 5k lbs that's more than enough for anything I'd want tow.

None of the towing numbers are official yet, including the 10,000 lb BEV. It only costs $100 per vehicle to wait until it's official. I believe Scout will gain more sales from having a 500 mile range than they'll lose from having reduced towing. Everyone's needs are different, though.
