Front brake squeal when reversing

I’ve noted that my 4Runner lets out a long and loud brake screech when lightly braking in after reversing. Appears to happen after being parked and if you reverse in general, even after driving for quite some time.

The Tundras have a TSB for this same issue so I’m curious if Toyota will have another for this eventually.

I believe the LandCruiser forum had the same issue as well. I know my current car does this too, so it’s not limited to just Toyota.

yup mine does the same thing. Obnoxious loud brake squealing when reversing. Only does it in reverse. I have 400 miles on my 4runner and plan to mention it at the 5k service

Agreed. Will be mentioning it at the first service interval.

Don’t let them tell you its “normal”. Refer to other model TSB’s.

Got 210 miles on mine and when I reverse for the first time after it’s been sitting, doesn’t matter what time of day the squeal is so loud the entire neighborhood can probably hear it. It’s not normal. Taking it in for service Monday to be looked at. Bit embarrassing

Read that the GX 550 had the same problem that Lexus issued a recall to replace the brake pads, rotors and calipers.

Not sure if this helps, but I have never noticed my brakes squeal, so it's definitely not something that's just present in every 2025 4Runner. I would take it into the dealership and have them fix it. I wouldn't let them tell you it's "normal" either.

There's at least 8 people in the FB group that have the same brake squealing issue so its definitely pretty common

Dealer inspecting mine today and said they can’t find anything wrong and told me everything is to spec. He did mention he has seen this issue on tundras and he still has customers waiting over 6 months for new pads but said since I came in they documented it and that’s good since there is record of my issue.

I dunno man I know stupid… maybe they reimburse you sometime? I think for now I’ll just back park. Looks cooler anyhow

I am on the same boat. I just dropped off my truck at my local dealer. First they couldn't tell what was wrong and couldn't replicate the sound. I left it over night and they checked again in the morning. Sure enough they heard the sound and they said they would replace the rotor and the brake disc. I gotta wait another day for the parts to come in and replace those parts. Sad that I have to go through this with my new truck with less than 400 miles.

Do you know if it'll be an improved/updated set of rotor & pads? If they just replace with the same parts then it'll just come back soon or later.
