The default for auto-hold (the feature that holds the brake for you) is off. But in my wife's car it's always on. I much prefer it on always than turning it on each time the car starts. It can be a hazard issue when I forget to turn it on but think it's on. Is there a setting in the car we can fiddle with or is it something we have to live with? Anybody know? I did a little research and no luck.

Thank you!

I’m assuming you have to turn it on after every start but will remain engaged for the duration of the drive until you manually turn it off or shut the car off. I could be wrong but haven’t seen a setting or way to keep it on automatically after every start….

I am just reading the manual on "Brake Hold". First time Toyota owner here. The manual starts with "Enabling the Brake Hold" but does not tell you how to enable or disable. Page 231. There is a graphic showing the parking brake button. Maybe that is dual function, Parking Brake and Brake Hold?

I would hope that the default is ON and when turned on or off keeps that state as the first post indicates, it could be dangerous to think its on when off.

How is this turned on? Google AI hints at using the brake button but I read that is only for the parking brake operation.

Thanks in advance....

The parking brake and brake hold controls are two separate buttons. The brake hold button has the word "HOLD" on it. You turn it on by pressing the button, there is a picture of the button with an arrow pointing down on it.

The parking brake has a "P" on it.
