Maybe "wind noise" is too strong a term but with all windows up, and with music off, AC fan on minimum, nobody else in the vehicle, I hear something like a light blowing air noise from the back cabin. Too hard to pinpoint where, other than to say it's behind the driver position; it's kind of a broad noise.

Is this maybe coming through the speakers, as some form of noise cancelling?

I hear it all the time. I’ve noticed that I constantly find myself checking to make sure that all of my windows are up because it sounds like I’m getting the slightest bit of wind coming in from one of my back windows.

Side note, not entirely related, but keep in mind when you have the ventilated seats on that makes noise as well, it sounds like a small blower is on and it was driving me nuts until I realized what it was.

Yup, right there with ya. Seems to start at about 40/45 mph and continues to get a bit louder at higher speeds. I did the whole window check thing and just chalked it up to that’s the way a 4Runner will sound. 🤷🏻 Not sure what can be done. For me, it’s not that annoying, just a tad more noise than my last car.

Wonder if it is part of the piped in artificial engine noise that I have read about. Can that be turned off and checked to see if that's the culprit?

It could be, but I've also heard it when the engine shuts off and the electric motor kicks in, like when coasting down a hill. To my untrained ear, it does sound like wind noise and not engine or exhaust noise. But what do I know!

Or...(and this is probably a stretch), what if it IS actually wind noise, coming in through the mysteriously loose-fitting rear triangle windows? (Cue "Twilight Zone" music)

I'll vote for that one. Was at the dealer yesterday talking with the assistant GM about a few things and showed him how loose the window is. He looked a bit shocked, but said Toyota has a reason for doing most things...

@Bnaps9, thanks for raising the ventilated seats. At first I thought, nah, the noise is coming from too high, but sure enough, when I turned it off (I was parked in my garage at the time), it did the trick. Not sure if that will address the wind noise while moving, but it was at least one piece of the puzzle.

It’s funny man. I thought of this post today when I was out running errands. It’s a little warmer today in NY so I had the vented seats on, as soon as I turned it off, while in motion mind you, that wind noise dissipated substantially. lol I was going to comment on this thread again tonight.

Could be the answer, but I’ve never used mine yet. Too cold in MT still.

The ventilated seats do cause a fan or wind noise to an acute hearing sense

Just a guess...could the loose fitting windows be a new way to relieve pressure when doors are closed (most cars use flaps exposed to the outside ). With the 4Runner wading depth situating the releases up high and even new ways of preventing dust intrusion in desert environs wondering if the window design is a new technique.
